If your'e a science lover, you sure must have heard of Isaac Newton,in case you haven't,sit beneath a apple tree and wait for the apple to knock on that brain of yours, you'll know of Newton then. So,Newton was this awesome science nerd, sometime in the 1650's,there was this demonic plague in England and the university in which Newton studied-in sent the students home because they feared a group of bunched-up nerds are more susceptible to diseases.
Newton gladly went back home and instead of mucking around, sat in his room for months on end.He was working on his new theory which involved some newly developed math which we now call 'Calculus'.(Newton's calculus notations are weird, our simple understanding of calculus today owes its thanks to another great mathematician called Leibniz).Anyway,so Newton thought about something practical finally,he envisioned the SATELLITE!!!(in 165? watever).
This was how envisioned it
Lets say there are 2 people of the exact same height standing next to each other:
GUY1 has a gun 1.3 meters above the ground(with a bullet inside obviously 1.3m above the ground ) and GUY2 holds a bullet in his hand 1.3m above the ground(no gun).
Now,lets perform an 'experimental trial',let GUY1 fire his gun and GUY2 drop the bullet from his hand.
Which bullet do you think would hit the ground first, the bullet fired from the gun or the bullet dropped from the hand? Most of you must have guessed:the bullet dropped from the hand.
Hard one but the reality is that both hit the ground at the exact same time(NON-INTUITIVE),right??
So,Newton thought with his sophisticated english accent,'what if i had a super powerful gun and fired the bullet at a super great muzzle velocity?ehhh?'
What would happen is that the bullet would never hit the ground. In fact, the ground would keep curving downwards as the bullet tried to catch up with it(Ponder on it a little). The bullet would be like a GEO-STATIONARY satellite.(That's about 36,000 kms from the ground on the equator).Gravity is a slick tool.
